Today is Presidents Day and the “Uniform Holidays” bill was inacted by Congress in 1971. The bill combined three existing holidays including the birthdays of George Washinton and Abraham Lincoln. Federal and state government offices are closed today.

Offices: Closed today

United States Postal Serivce: Closed today; no mail delivery


State Government

DMV: Closed today

Offices: Closed today



Traffic: City parking meters, time-zoning signs and peak-time travel lanes will not be enforced today

GRTC: Today, buses will operate on a regualr schedule, express service reduced for Henrico County


Greater Richmond Area

Colleges: Open unless there are snow closures

County and city offices: Richmond, Charles City, Goochland, New Kent & Powhatan closed today

Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico open  today

School Systems: Richmond, Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico and Powhatan closed today. New Kent County open today.


Courts: Closed today


Libraries: Richmond, Charles City and New Kent branches and Powhatan closed today. Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover and Henrico open today


Trash: No Richmond collections today. Collections will be a day late for the rest of the week beginning Tuesday

Most transfer stations and landfills open today

Central Virginia Waste Management Authority collections on regualr schedule

Recycling: curbside recycling on regular schedule
