It’s a known fact that the Washington Redskins plan to select Baylor QB Robert Griffin III with the 2nd pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. And who can blame them, the guy has the tools, the skills, and all the promise you want to see in a future franchise QB. You know, I’m checking R G – 3 out more and more, and as a Dallas fan, I’m getting a bit jealous.
It’s what the ‘Skins do with the rest of their selections that will determine if the team will see a big turnaround in 2012. Word is Washington has it’s eyes focused on CB dwight Bentley of Louisiana-Layfayette. Bentley played in this year’s Senior Bowl under Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, who likes his coverage skills and tackling ability.
Meanwhile, the Skins finally got a deal done for middle linebacker and defensive leader London Fletcher, who despite his lengthy career, is still playing at a high level from sideline to sideline. Fletcher inked a 2-year deal to stay in DC despite several offers from other teams. He’s played for 14 seasons in the NFL and has NEVER missed a game.
It seems the more they hate on Tim Tebow, the bigger his celebrity becomes. Not only did the Jets “back-up” QB draw some 15,000 people to an Easter Sunday event at a Texas church, but this past weekend at a pre-tournament auction before his charitable foundation’s celebrity golf outing in Florida, the chance to spend a day hanging out with Tebow went up for bid. The winning nod? $100,000! Mark Sanchez, grab a headset dude.
In Denver, Peyton Manning has arrived and is participating in the Broncos workouts, which is a relief since he’s been sneaking around to Denver area playgrounds to toss the football around. In Pittsburgh, the Steelers have decided to keep back-up QB Charlie Batch, and why not, he’s won five of seven games in relief of starter Ben Rothlisberger.
