Sixteen stops into the NASCAR racing season, and Richmond’s current racing legend, Denny Hamlin is right there in the thick of things at No. 5 on the Sprint Cup Points list behind Kenseth, Ernhardt, Johnson and Biffle.   Hamlin ran much stronger at the beginning of the year when he won two races and seven Top 5 finishes.   A tough weekend at Michigan for Denny last weekend, who had engine troubles  Sunday and finished 34th in the race.   He’s hoping California’s road-course race will be a little kinder to the Fed-Ex No. 11 this weekend at Sonoma.

Hamlin hopes to improve on his positioning by the time NASCAR returns to his hometown on September 8th, which of course is the final race of the regular season with the Championship Chase beginning the weekend after the RIR race.
