College Hoops around the 804 this weekend have the VCU Rams and the Richmond Spiders both on the road in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Coming off their first A-10 win on Wednesday over Dayton, the Rams take their 10-game win streak and national ranking to New York to battle St. Bonaventure on Saturday. VCU jumped into the Coaches Top 25 poll earlier this week at No. 24.
Meanwhile, the Umiversity of Richmond, also Atlantic 10 members, will also hit the road to the Philadelphia area this weekend for a date with LaSalle Univewrsity. The Spiders are 11 – 5 coming off a home win over Rhode Island and have a game coming up with 14th-ranked Butler before their Capital City showdown with VCU on January 24th.
UVA & Virginia Tech also playing out of state this weekend as the ACC goes full throttle. The Cavaliers will play at Clemson University on Saturday while the Hokies take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. In the MEAC, Norfolk State plays at Maryland -Eastern Shore on Saturday, and the Pirates of Hampton University are in DC to battle arch rival Howard.
In the CIAA, both Virginia State & Virfginia Union find themselves in North Carolina this weekend as the Trojans visit Livingstone College on Saturday night, while yje Panthers of VUU visit Fayetteville State. An unusually slow start for Union this season as the Panthers have accumulated only 2 wins heading into the weekend. Having lost 24 straight to the Panthers, you know the Virginia State fans are salivating at the chance to end the “Coliseum Jinx” in next week’s Freedom Classic.
