Local fans got their first glimpse of what life is like in an NFL city on Wednesday as the Washington Redskins rolled into Richmond for their summer training camp, the first of many more seasons to come here in the Capital City. The fans will get plenty of opportunities to see star QB Robert Griffin III, who isn’t expected to practice with the team much, or even play during the preseason as the Redskins walk their franchise player slowly back into the mix following extensive knee surgery.
Doctors have given Griffin the green light to practice, but this IS the NFL, and you don’t step between those white lines until you are truly “ready to go”. Thousands of Washington fans are expected to show up to check out the Skins’ training camp here in Richmond, not only locals, but fans from the Tidewater area and the Tri-Cities as well. The Redskins won the NFC East title last season, and may have gone deeper in the playoffs had Griffin not sustained the injury. His recovery is the key to the 2013 season.
