Richie, 62, has a $1.1 million debt to the Feds, according to IRS documents. Officials say, the sum is leftover from unpaid income taxes in 2010.
In addition, Richie has been slapped with a lien, meaning the federal government has the right to seize his assets if he doesn’t pay up in a timely manner.
Fortunately, with new projects in the works it seems that Lionel Richie should be able to scrap together the cash within the next few months.
Richie has a recurring role on “The Voice” as an adviser this season, and he will also appear alongside Kelly Clarkson and Robin Thicke as a judge on the new singing competition show “Duets.”
