It was Homecoming weekend on the campus of Virginia Union University, and indeed the Panthers treated the Union alumni to an offensive explosion in scoring a whopping 61 points in a rout of Lincoln University this past Saturday at Hovey Field. The win evens Union’s record at 3 – 3, ending the Panthers’ three-game losing streak. VUU heads to Morth Carolina this weekend for a CIAA meeting with Chowan University.
In Petersburg, the Trojans of Virginia State finally discovered the comforts of home in defeating the Vikings of Elizabeth City State 28 – 17 at Rogers Stadium. State improves it’s record to 2 – 4 after losing three straight games. The Men of Troy travel to Bowie State next weekend for a CIAA date with the Bulldogs, and return to the Hill for Homecoming on Satureday, October 20th.
In the MEAC, the Spartans of Norfolk State University have gone from the preseason MEAC pick to repeat as league champion to bringing up the rear as Delaware State came to Norfolk and left with a 20 – 17 victory over the Green & Gold. The Spartans have lost four straight games and find themselves without a MEAC win at 0 – 3 with the “Battle of the Bay” coming up nest Saturday as the winless Pirates of Hampton University venture across the Chesapeake Bay to Dick Price Stadium.
