With all of the success the hit film Fences had last year, many thought Denzel Washington was a shoe-in to snag the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Unfortunately, the award went to Casey Affleck for his role in Manchester by the Sea, but fans of the Oscar nominated flick, as well as Denzel himself, were noticeably disappointed that the veteran actor lost to Affleck.

Even celebs took to social media to address the alleged Oscar snub. Spike Lee, who’s worked with Washington many times, shared on Instagram that Denzel was robbed twice: once for Fences and another for the 1992 biopic Malcolm X.

Lightning Strikes For The Second Time. Robbed For The Second Time. Dats Da Truth, Ruth. By Any Means Necessary.

Spike isn’t the only star to speak out about Washington’s loss. Russell Simmons went to Instagram to share his feelings, saying, I don’t think they saw Denzel’s performance, but that’s my opinion. Best performance I’ve seen in 20 years. Denzel deserved to win!”

We wish Denzel could’ve taken home the Best Actor trophy, but at least Viola Davis got her just due!
